When you first start teaching sight words, it can be overwhelming. There’s a lot of materials available and it can be hard to come up with strategies to teach sight words. It’s easy to track student growth at learning sight words. I like to use strategies such as making graphs and coloring in hundreds charts so students can see their growth. You can use the flash cards as is for assessment, or create a list of words for students to read. Don’t forget to also monitor recognition of the words when they see them in text.
