What reading levels are included?
Make sure you check out the preview to get a closer look to see if this is right for your students.
The passages were created for students at about the:
- 4th/5th grade reading level
- 2nd/3rd grade reading level
- 1/st2nd grade reading level
The activities are all differentiated as well. This is super helpful for those kids who need to practice grade level skills but need work that is slightly modified to make it more accessible.
What about that quiz?
While it was created to be a quiz, it’s not labeled as such so you could also use it as homework or extra practice or just another worksheet. Also, since it’s not labeled as a quiz some testing anxiety will be eliminated.
But, here’s the best part about the quiz:Â You actually get TWO quizzes for each ability level.
- The first quiz is based on the passage students have been working on all week. There’s general comprehension questions, and questions related to the specific skills they’ve practiced.
- The second option is a BRAND NEW (but related) passage with questions. This is a great opportunity to see how your kids can tackle a brand new passage without the benefit of teacher led instruction.
Is there an answer key?
- Yes, there is a full answer key. (Please note: There are no drawings provided for the questions that ask students to draw their answer.)
Why a 5 day approach?
- You certainly don’t have to do it over five days, but I’ve found that this amount of time is perfect to really dig into the text. By working with the same text over the time period, students get multiple opportunities to read and interact with the material.
Is there a lesson plan included?
- Short answer: no.
- Long answer: no, because:
- I wanted teachers to have flexibility. You can do the activities in any order!
- This set of materials is just a resource. You know your students best so you’ll know which activities are going to be more challenging than others and will need more support. You’ll also know which methods to use for reading the text (teacher read aloud, independent read, etc.) You will have to take the materials and decide the best way to use them for your students.
- They honestly aren’t necessary! This resource is so easy to use, and there is an included teacher guide to help you with the file organization. Beyond that, I’m confident you can figure out how to use these materials with your students!
