What is the purpose of this product?
- Students need practice decoding words with a particular phonics pattern. When students are just starting to work on words with s-blends, the word ‘strawberry’ shouldn’t be in that packet! I believe that words should be 100% decodable, so when you purchase any of the resources from this line, you will only find words that are decodable.
What makes these games unique?
I get it. There’s TONS of phonics activities out there. However, I’ve carefully created these units to be:
- 100% decodable (each unit builds on previous units)
- perfect for small group time (each day will take about 20 minutes to complete)
- Systematic (You can find 8 total units of this daily work from CVC words to R Controlled vowels)
What do you mean they are systematic?
- Each unit builds on previous units. If students can read CVC words, they are ready for unit 2 which is short vowel blends. When you get to unit 3, students will see short vowel digraphs and the words may also include some blends as well. You can have students working on whatever unit is appropriate for their needs.
How can I use these activities for differentiation?
- This is one part of an 8 part resource. If you buy more than one resource, you can easily differentiate your small groups! They all follow the same format, which means each group can be doing the exact same thing but with words that they need to practice!
How much prep is required for this resource?
- Every game in this resource is no-prep (just print and go!) or low prep using straight line cuts. I’ve made these activities as easy as possible for teachers. After a quick trip to the paper cutter, you are ready to go.
- You can print the student notebooks and put them in a folder, staple them in a book, bind them using a binding machine, or simply hand them out each day as individual worksheets.
What is included?
You will receive a file with the following in it:
- Teacher Guide – This is where you’ll find information on how to play each game and complete each phonemic awareness activity. Make sure you read this first!
- Teacher Manual – Answer keys for the student notebook pages are in this file.
- Student Notebook – Two pages for each day of instruction, these can be used as worksheets or staple together to make packets.
- Interactive Activities – These activities are provided in line art and full color. Each of the 15 activities occurs twice in the unit. In total, you will get 30 activities, but if you are short on prep time you can reuse the set one activities a second time instead of printing new word cards.
What is included with each game?
Every game includes:
- Teacher directions
- Playing directions
- Line art version
- Full color version
What else do I need to play for this?
Many games include all necessary materials. Occasionally, you may find the teacher directions indicate that you will need to include things like dice or counters. All items are clearly labeled on the teacher direction page.
During the phonemic awareness warm-up, you may want to use manipulatives to support your students. Directions for what to use are included.
